Representatives from Groz-Beckert, a leading German manufacturer of precision parts, tools, and systems for the textile industry, recently visited Bangladesh University of Textiles to deliver a technical seminar, aimed to discuss the company's goals, mission, vision, and technological advancements.
During the seminar, Groz-Beckert managing director Andreas Dietz took the audience on a journey through the company's rich history, spanning from 1852 to the present day. He added that the company is making a mark in different value chain system of textiles by providing its support in terms of carding in fibre preparation stage, carding in yarn production stage, fabric production stage, sewing in finishing and making up stage, distribution stage, etc.
In 2022, Groz-Beckert’s gross turnover was $778 million with sales turnover of 13 per cent in the American market, 33 per cent in the European market and 54 per cent in the Asian market on the year 2021. The company employs over 8,700 people and offers more than 70,000 products. It is strongly focusing on R&D and on eliminating all sustainability challenges, said Dietz.
Speaking about the company’s circular knitting machineries at the seminar, Ingmar Stotz said: “Our product ranges are latch needle, spring loaded needles, steel and composite oriented needle etc. Machines have gone to conventional machineries to modern machineries over the years. Today’s machineries are better and compact from previous models. We are also making our products in relevant to the new era and trying to create more functional solutions.
“Groz-Beckert machineries consist of reduced friction, reduced energy consumption, reduced wear and tear. We are trying to develop more precise machinery with minor speed loss. SAN SF and SNK SF cleaning can reduce water cycles efficiently. Groz-Beckert machineries are trying to reduce process defects and trying to give best service and training to the employees to compile with the best result possible.”
Addressing the seminar, Rajib Ranjan Saha said that Groz-Beckert is attempting to minimise production stoppages in the legwear machinery segment through its latest technology. During the production of legwear, machinery can experience speed losses which can cause interruptions. He explained that the company’s machinery can enhance work precision by means of customisation.
Talking about Groz-Beckert’s flat knitting machines, Lionel Ho said, “Flat knitting machines produce outerwear such as sweaters, accessories such as scarfs and others. Weft knitting techniques are being used in the process. The machineries have been developed from hand driven methods to electronic flat driven machinery over the years. Our machinery can increase hook stability, adjusted latch spring force, anti-scissoring effect and higher precision reliability.”
A presentation on weaving machinery was given by Martin Philip. He said that the company is focusing on high quality jacquard heads, innovative and attractive design in the machineries.
Jimmy Sing explained to the students at the seminar that roller cards are utilised by the nonwovens industry to convert staple fibres into nonwoven fabrics. The fabrics produced through this process have diverse applications, ranging from the conventional textile industry to various technical areas such as the automobile industry, geotextiles, hygiene sector, and medical industry. Sing further added that Groz Beckert has made improvements to metallic card clothing, flexible wires, flexible card clothes, and border wires to enhance the efficiency of the overall process.
