One of the greatest parts of hosting events across the U.S. is getting to meet new people. People who have devoted their careers to building sewn products, supporting local economies, and shining a light on the artisans, entrepreneurs, and changemakers who are all just trying to make a difference within their various corners of the world.

Back in April, we received — quite possibly — the warmest welcome from the Austin, Texas community, when we hosted SPESA’s 2025 Advancements in Manufacturing Technologies Conference there. This was a group of industry folks who not only offered ideas and resources to support the success of our event but put in the work to help us pull it off. But this kindness came as no surprise to our team members Marie and Ambar, both from Texas, and both keenly aware of the Lone Star state's knack for hospitality.

We left Austin with a new family. And just as they supported us, we want to support them. As I’m sure you’ve all seen, the Hill Country region near Austin was devastated by deadly and destructive flooding. Our hearts go out to the community there and everyone affected by the storm.

To assist in relief efforts, SPESA has linked to some important resources that offer guidance on the best ways to help.

We want to say a big thank you to the SPESA members and Behind the Seams subscribers who have already shared the contributions they made. It means the world to us.
